Spruce up our Living Shoreline: A Celebration!
Â
Â
In May, more than 70Â people joined the EAC, Intact Insurance, and Helping Nature Heal in planting a Living Shoreline demonstration site at the Saint Mary's Boat Club in Halifax. What a great day! After months of preparation and hard work, we got to put roots in the ground and make our Living Shorelines dream a reality.
After a summer of growth, our Living Shoreline is looking mighty fine! Our new plants are growing, soil that was once exposed is covered in vines and flowers, and new trees are taking root. What once was a lawn is looking a lot more like a robust ecosystem, and that is something to celebrate!
Now, on Saturday, September 12th, we'll be planting 150 additional trees to make our Living Shoreline even stronger. Thanks to TD Friends of the Environment and Clean Foundation, we have the chance to plant dozens of new maple, ash, oak, pine, and beech trees, and contribute to making our living shoreline even more robust and resilient than before.
Join the EAC, TD Friends of the Environment, Clean Foundation, and Helping Nature Heal on Saturday September 12 from 10am-2pm to help plant some trees, enjoy some fresh Nova Scotia corn on the cob, and spend some time with like-minded folks. This is a drop in event, so feel free to come by any time between 10 and 2. Please dress for the weather and bring anything you need to be comfortable outside.Â
Please register online, and get in touch with Robin at coastal@ecologyaction.ca or (902) 442 5046 if you have any questions or ideas.
Note: car parking is not available on site for this event. Please park your car on the road or at the lot on the corner of Oxford St and Coburg Rd (it's free on the weekend). Bike parking on site is plentiful.
See you soon!
