How to Have a Meeting That Doesn't Suck: Hosting for Action

Facilitated by our friends at CoLab, this session explores how to create spaces where participation is more balanced, all perspectives are invited and collective insight can emerge.

Where: The Loyola Academic Building - Room 175 (923 Robie St)
When: Wednesday, May 6, 4:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Many of us have experienced meetings where a few voices carry most of the conversation, while others hold back or go unheard. This is about hosting conversations with intention, where purpose, participation and outcomes are more clearly held.

Together we will explore 7 Little Helpers, a practical framework to support more intentional participation, clearer roles and shared responsibility in group spaces. We will also dive into the mechanics of Circle Way to support equity in practice and explore powerful “Calling Questions” that invite people to step in and contribute.

What we will explore:

  • Inviting Broader Participation: practices that support more balanced contributions and bring more voices into the room.
  • The 7 Little Helpers: a simple framework to guide participation, roles and shared responsibility
  • Designing for Engagement: How to shape questions and structures that invite meaningful contribution.
  • From Conversation to Action: ways to support momentum leading to more clarity, alignment and practical next steps.

Please note: This workshop is complementary to The Power of Story workshop. It’s beneficial to attend both sessions, but this workshop is also great as a stand alone.
