People at a public consulation session

Public Consultation: What would you need in a comfort centre?

Enhancing emergency preparedness through input from residents across HRM

In partnership with Volta Research Inc, we are conducting research into how to best support our communities in the face of worsening storms and climate disasters.

We're seeking to understand what people need to be safe and supported during an emergency. Comfort Centres are existing local community buildings or “hubs” that opened in response to emergencies to provide power, heat or food (as seen during Hurricane Fiona, flooding, wildfires, and/or other emergencies).

This public consultation session is a chance to share your needs, concerns and opinions on comfort and safety.

Date: Tuesday, June 23
Time: 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.
Location: EAC Office (2705 Fern Lane, Halifax)

The questions we'll be discussing together include:

  • What does comfort mean to you when you or your loved ones need to evacuate from your homes due to emergency weather events?
  • What types of services would bring you comfort if you were in this situation?
  • How can your municipality support that?

Who should attend? Community members within the HRM; local NGOs; municipal staff members that work on emergency preparedness or comfort centres directly.

Register using the form on this page. We hope to see you there!
