Our HRM Alliance is a coalition of more than 60 organizations advocating for sustainable growth in HRM. The environment, business, health, and community sectors are all represented in this alliance, which has been instrumental in advocating for the creation of the Halifax Green Network Plan. The Ecology Action Centre is a key member of the Alliance and our Sustainable Cities Coordinator acts as its coordinator.
Unanimous Asks - The Seven Solutions
Unanimous Asks - The Seven Solutions
Our HRM Alliance worked with numerous groups to develop Our Seven Solutions for a Liveable and Sustainable HRM. These solutions represent guiding principles and our collective ask of government.
They are:
-
Protect the Green Network: to preserve natural areas and ecosystem services that are part of a livable city
-
Refine and invest in growth centres: to put growth where it makes the most sense
-
Invest in housing, transit, and access to nature: to build complete communities downtown and in growth centres
-
Adhere to Regional growth targets: to balance rural, suburban, and urban settlement growth
-
Growth funds itself: evaluate development charges to ensure the Municipality is not burdened by growth
-
Act on climate
-
Provide actionable engagement and measure success
