MI’KMA’KI (NOVA SCOTIA)
Due to popular demand, Ecology Action Centre and Zuppa Theatre Co. have announced a two-week extension of 50 Things: A Provincewide Art Adventure. People across Nova Scotia will now have more time to download and use the free app to discover 50 multimedium artworks by established and emerging artists, inspired by the past 50 years of environmental activism in Mi’kma’ki/Nova Scotia. The artworks are now available until Sunday, Oct. 31,  2021.

“We’re thrilled by all of the positive feedback we’ve received from people across the province and by extending 50 Things, it’ll give more people the opportunity to find and experience the artworks hidden across the province,” says Joanna Bull, community engagement manager with EAC. “Each location was used intentionally and each art piece tells a different story about the environmental movement in the province. And it’s a beautiful time of year to get outside to experience these artworks and the important stories behind them."

One of the 50 artworks, an audio piece titled Carrying the Spark, will be temporarily relocated to the Halifax waterfront’s hammock area this week for Nocturne: Art at Night. The piece was created in honour of Danielle Moore, who lived her life full of hope and believed in creating great change for a more just and environmentally sustainable planet. Tragically, Danielle’s life was cut short on March 10, 2019, when flight ET302 crashed in Ethiopia – Danielle was on her way to represent Canada at the United Nations Environment Assembly in Nairobi, Kenya.

“This project has been such an amazing experience,” says Ben Stone, co-artistic director and co-founder with Zuppa Theatre Co. “The extension and the feature in Nocturne are an opportunity to bring these artworks and the stories that inspired them to a wider audience. 50 years of collective work for a better future. That’s something really special and this is a wonderful way to share it with people all across the province.”
