K’JIPUKTUK (Halifax) - The Ecology Action Centre (EAC) is happy to announce the appointment of Chris Stover to the position of Executive Director. Stover is the former Executive Director of the Canadian Centre of Ethics in Public Affairs (CCEPA). She brings more than a decade of leadership experience to the EAC.
Anne Marie Dalton, EAC Board Co-Chair, says a rigorous search was conducted over the past five months to fill the newly created role of Executive Director.
“We’re delighted that Chris is taking the helm at the EAC,” says Dalton, “Her collaborative leadership style and longstanding commitment to values-based work are what is needed in this pivotal moment for the environment.”
For close to 50 years the EAC has been working on critical environmental issues from biodiversity protection to climate change to environmental justice. Started by a group of students in 1971, the membership-based organization has grown to more than 40 staff, 5,000 members and 300 volunteers, and tackles some of the most pressing environmental issues impacting Nova Scotia and beyond.
“It’s quite a privilege to be given the opportunity to lead the EAC at this particular juncture,” says Stover, adding “with all eyes focused on the environment right now, the EAC agenda is well placed to stimulate the significant shifts we’re called upon to achieve.”
Stover has extensive background in communications and public engagement, having spent more than two decades as a broadcast journalist. In 2006, she joined CCEPA as General Manager and was appointed Executive Director in 2014. Chris also serves as a Director on the national Board of Transparency International Canada.
Stover officially assumes the role on January 6. However, EAC members, volunteers, and supporters have a first opportunity to meet Stover on Thursday, December 5, from 4 -7 p.m. at the EAC Annual Holiday Open House.
