Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2025 – We were shocked to hear the Houston government’s intention to alter legislation that would allow for hydraulic fracturing (fracking) and uranium exploration in Nova Scotia, tabled yesterday as a part of a larger omnibus bill.

Update on Wednesday, Jan. 29: Following an outcry of concerns from the public and members of the fishing industry, on Monday, Jan.
On March 4, 2024, the Province’s Department of Natural Resources and Renewables released their Critical Minerals Strategy. This Strategy includes a list of 16 minerals found in Nova Scotia which will “help with climate change goals, are in global demand and present strategic opportunities for the Province.”
The twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss demand both immediate and thoughtful action. We must urgently transition away from fossil fuels – the main driver of climate change – but we must do so in a manner that avoids perpetuating the harms caused by current energy production practices.
