Honouring Kip McCurdy

Honouring Kip McCurdy

Kip McCurdy was a fierce environmental advocate, a canoe-maker and a naturalist who had a significant impact in Nova Scotia – from founding the Annapolis Waterkeepers, to contributing to the successful return of Peregrine Falcons to the Bay of Fundy as they clawed back from the brink of extinction.

McCurdy’s stewardship of the first falcon he discovered, named Madeleine, was the inspiration behind The Madeleine Grant.

The Madeleine Grant is a tribute to McCurdy and a celebration of his work. It is awarded annually to a project of the Ecology Action Centre that strengthens and supports grassroots community advocacy in the fight to protect the natural spaces we cherish.

The spirit of this grant, and the projects it funds, honour McCurdy and his passion for citizen science and community-building.

By downloading this guide, you too are engaging in the important work of grassroots organizing and carrying on the legacy of those who have fought to protect the places we love.
